For his follow-up to Suicide Squad, director David Ayer is once again teaming with Will Smith and heading to Netflix with Bright, a fantasy tinged actioner that sees a human (Smith) and orc (Joel Edgerton) cop police a world where humans exist side by side with fantasy creatures like orcs, fairies, and elves. Everything is business as usual for the pair, until they come into possession of a massively powerful, and highly illegal, weapon: a magic wand.
This first trailer doesn’t really give much away, but this weird little movie does have a lot going for it. At times, it feels like Ayer’s own End of Watch with added monsters, shot through with a gritty style you wouldn’t expect from a movie that has the words orc and magic wand in the plot description. It may seem like a strange concept to pull off, but even if we’ve only seen 30 seconds so far, I’m inclined to believe Ayer can do it.
Bright lands on Netflix in December.
Fantasy has become reality. Will Smith and Joel Edgerton star in Bright, only on @netflix. pic.twitter.com/FJueEhMFCO— Bright Film (@BrightNetflix) February 27, 2017
