M. Night Shyamalan has being on one hell of a comeback lately, with The Visit and Split going a long way to erasing the memories of mega flops like After Earth, The Last Airbender, and (shudder) The Happening. With Split, the man known for his love of twists deliver quite a doozy, and if you’re unaware of how the multiple personality disorder themed psychological thriller panned out, consider this your spoiler warning:
The movie was actually the long awaited sequel to 2000’s grounded superhero flick Unbreakable, with Bruce Willis returning as David Dunn, the blue collar worker impervious to harm, setting him on a quest to end the reign of James McAvoy’s Kevin, who is now in control of his 24 separate personalities, and has become a powerful, supernatural entity dubbed The Horde by the media. If that juicy bit of information has you champing at the bit for more, have no fear as Shyamalan has announced his next movie will be both a sequel to Unbreakable and Split, entitled Glass.
For fans of Unbreakable, you know what’s coming. For the uninitiated, Samuel L. Jackson played a comic obsessed character named Elijah Price, born with a degenerative disease that makes his bones incredibly frail and prone to breaking easily. Price is revealed to be Dunn’s nemesis by the movie’s end, revealing that kids tested him by calling him Mr. Glass when he was younger, thus giving him the perfect super villain. As you would expect, Glass sees Price return in a big way, with the movie seeing bot Split and Unbreakable collide as Dunn hunts The Horde down, while Price orchestrates events behind the scenes, holding secrets critical to both men. Anya Taylor Joy will also return as Casey Cooke, the only person to survive an encounter with The Horde. The release date is set for January 18th 2019 worldwide. As an unapologetic fan of Unbreakable, and having enjoyed Split quite a bit, this is one movie I can’t wait for.
