Brad Pitt is said to be in negotiations for film rights with the 33 Chilean miners who were rescued last month after surviving two months trapped in a mine. Since becoming the sole owner of Plan B Entertainment, Pitt have proven to have an eye for a hit and the means to make it happen. Following the initial disaster that was Troy (2004), Planet B Entertainment has produced a string of well-received films including Charlie & The Chocolate Factory (2005), The Departed (2006) Kick-Ass (2010) and Eat, Pray, Love (2010).
According to The Wrap, a lawyer for the miners told a Santiago publication that Pitt has made a multi-million dollar offer for the rights to the film and is interested in casting some of the surviving miners. However, the miners are anxious to create a holding company before they sign to ensure that all proceeds from the film will be distributed evenly amongst the miners.
