Your sleepless nights of wondering are about to come to an end; yes, I'm about to reveal my personal Top 5 Movies of the Year. You can check out Vic's ass-kicking list here!
Drum roll, please...
5. PIRANHA 3D
From the opening scene where Richard Dreyfuss (in a Jaws-styled cameo) is sucked into a whirlpool created by prehistoric killer fish, right up to it's gloriously grotesque Mardi-Gras finisher; this movie was a blast. And an absolute surprise. Those expecting a Z-grade monster movie were in for a shock to find a well crafted, tongue-in-cheek splatter flick. It also comes out tomorrow (Christmas Eve) on Blu-Ray!
4. EXIT THROUGH THE GIFTSHOP
Largely unnoticed in many countries upon it's release, the Bansky centered art documentary is a fantastic and insightful look into the world of street art. It also gives us our closest yet look at the mysterious artist himself. And while it's not actually centered on Banksy at all (the film prefers die hard wannabe, Thierry) anybody at all interested in the subject should check this out.
3. BURIED
You know when you're in a video rental store and it seems like every box has that cliched blurb from some Newspaper exclaiming it, "Nerve Shredding!" or "Edge-Of-Your-Seat-Stuff!". Well, forget that shit. Rodrigo Cortes' Buried is not only an actual nerve shredding film, but it's impeccably made and Ryan Reynolds hammers out an unbelievable performance.
2. MACHETE
If I were to compare films to alcoholic beverages, Machete would be a flaming shot of Tequila. Like a shot of Tequila, it's quick, it burns and after about 5 seconds you think to yourself, "...that was awesome". It's an hour and a half of a solid cast having a lot of fun.
1. THE TOWN
When The Town was in cinemas, it seemed like it was all anyone could talk about. It received rave reviews and a decent Box Office haul. But now 2010 is coming to a close, the film has seemed to have slipped to the back of people's mind. There are so many reasons this gets my Movie of the Year, but to make a long story short; incredible performances, masterful direction, vicious action and a razor sharp screenplay. See The Town as soon as you can!
So there you have it! My Top 5 of 2010, hope you dug it!
