NO WAIT COME BACK! They aren't becoming another Platinum Dunes where they just take old horror titles and put a bunch of sexy/sassy/irritating 90210 teenagers in them. No no, MGM seem to at least have an interest in making something interesting out of their remakes. How so, say you? Well, they're currently preparing a remake of Craig T. Nelson horror Poltergeist, and Vulture are saying they've tapped David Lindsay-Abair to write it. May not be a household name, but he's a Pulitzer winning writer, who recently wrote Nicole Kidman miseryfest Rabbit Hole, a very good and very serious family drama. If you're going to touch a piece of Solid Gold Cinema like Poltergeist (not joking, it's brilliant), you should at least get some talent involved, so this is promising.
He has yet to sign on the dotted line but it speaks volumes about the movie if they're willing to get a writer of big calibre involved. This, and the hiring of Jose Padhila (Elite Squad) for their Robocop reboot suggest they know that if they churn out some half-baked sequels that add nothing to the origin titles, they'll be back in hot water in no time.
