Judging by the reaction to both Shia and Indiana Jones 4, I'd expect a lot of people would prefer the headline "Shia LaBeouf Apologises for Mutt Jones" but to those naysayers I say.......Indy 4 was great. Really, I loved it and still enjoy watching it. What film could have lived up to the hype and gravitas of the original trilogy? I found it to be a great addition and loved how it kept the same funny & adventurous tone of the first three movies - Ford was still great too. It wasn't perfect of course - with Spielberg's money surely they could have shot on location more - but it was no disaster. A fifth film would be a riskier move, because most likely it would have a lot more negative hype before release than Crystal Skull did, warranted or not. Recently, LaBeouf has been talking to MTV News about the prospect of a new film, which he seems to think is imminent:
"I talked to Harrison. He said he’s staying in the gym. He said that he’s heard no word, but he does know that George is out there looking for a MacGuffin. But he said to me he’s staying in the gym, so that means it’s not so far off."
Of course, it's easy to assume from this that Harrison Ford is just trying to be healthy and LaBeouf is merely talking about what he hopes will happen as opposed to what will happen. But, there has been plenty of talk over the years about another movie and it seems like if George Lucas can find a story hook they'll go straight ahead. Chances are we'll hear more about it when Spielberg hits the publicity trail later this year for Tintin, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this go ahead at some stage. Sure, Harrison Ford is nearly 70, but I'm sure that would itself be an element of the script. One thing against the movie is Spielberg's schedule - he has Lincoln to make next and the potentially massive Robopocalypse after that, for release in 2013. So don't put on your fedoras just yet.
