ASSEMBLE!!!!!
Despite not bringing official footage to Comic-Con, Marvel have still managed to whip up some promo for The Avengers with this very impressive giant poster/banner/thing.
Nobody has been left out either, giving us a good look at the lineup albeit in painted form. From left to right; Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and the S.H.I.E.L.D. team led by Nick Fury (Sam Jackson) with Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg).
Being an early painting, there’s a chance that the costumes might not look exactly like this in the movie, as the poster really plays to their individual stories too (see the ghostly images in the background), but there’s still lots to notice, including;
* Captain America in his modern get up – quite similar to the original 40’s outfit but he’s Captain America, gotta keep up with the times!
* Iron Man isn’t wearing the same suit as in Iron Man 2, with no triangular reactor. Will he have it in the movie, or upgrade again?
*Black Widow is looking more and more like a major character as the movie comes closer. She’s distinct from the S.H.I.E.L.D. team here, and as we saw in Iron Man 2 is more than capable. Her outfit hasn’t changed but Johansson has talked of her crazy training routine – so she won’t be sitting on the sidelines. Director Joss Whedon loves strong female characters to it looks like he’s got a great one here. Note also that GIANT JET behind her! Could it be the Quinjet from the comics?
*Hawkeye was glimpsed in Thor but we get a better look here at his costume – the purple comic style had to go, and his giant S.H.I.E.L.D. badge is pretty sweet.
*It’s no surprise now given that producer Kevin Feige basically confirmed it’s appearance, but even so, the Helicarrier behind S.H.I.E.L.D. looks AMAZING! For those not in the know, the Helicarrier is the airborne base of the Avengers.
Excited now? And this is just a poster! The Avengers is out May 2012, and you can look at a giganto version of the poster here, http://bitcast-a-sm.bitgravity.com/slashfilm/wp/wp-content/images/avengersassemblelarge.jpg
