A two things that strike me about Texas Killing Fields. Firstly, the title. It stinks of Direct-To-DVD. Secondly, it's directed by Ami Canaan Mann, the daughter of Michael Mann. So with child jumping in on daddy's game, could she carry his masterful mind for thrillers? Or are we looking at a David Lynch-Jennifer Lynch situation?
Okay, that second point is kind of unfair. It's entirely possible that Ami Mann could even surpass her father in the world of film. It remains to be seen. But what I can see is that Texas Killing Fields has a damn fine cast. And a pretty great trailer, too. It strikes me as a stripped down, gritty, police procedural/serial killer thriller.
Sam Worthington (Avatar) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) lead the film. Co-starring are Jessica Chastain (The Tree Of Life), Stephen Graham (This Is England), Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass) and Sheryl Lee (Twin Peaks).
Texas Killing Fields hits Irish cinemas Winter 2011.
Here's an old poster (released previous to the name change).
