It still has no name, but production on Tarsem Singh’s new Snow White film is well underway ahead of the March 16 release, which was a result of some serious schedule changes thanks to Snow White & The Huntsman, which comes out next June. Whilst that film, starring Kirsten Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, is set to be a massive, action-full Lord of the Rings-esque affair, Singh’s Snow White is much more in tune with the story and imagery we all associate the character with. In other words, it looks a lot more like a fairy tale movie.
This is no surprise – as The Cell and The Fall proved, Singh is an incredibly stylish director. His next film, Immortals, out this November, looks to continue this trend whilst also appealing to a broad audience. Having seen some footage of the film already, I’m not sure how it will be received (at times it looked like an expensive lynx advert) and the same could be said of this movie too. Starring Lily Collins as Snow White and Julia Roberts as the Queen, it certainly looks intriguing but remains to be seen if people will take to it – there’s no doubt that in terms of star power, the trio of Stewart, Theron and Hemsworth in ‘Huntsman’ have this movie licked.
You can see for yourself how the movie is looking below in some official stills – there are even more to be found over on Yahoo Movies. They look good in an almost cartoon-ish style. I loved The Cell and The Fall, so I’m very keen to see how it turns out. What do you think? Can Singh successfully blend his style into a more commercial movie? Or will this suffer as a result? The jury is out….
