Sony have hired writers to work on a reboot of the Zorro franchise. Stephen Scaia and Matthew Federman have been tasked with penning the update thought to be based on the 2005 Zorro novel by Isabel Allende. Allende's book offered a fresh take on the well-worn Zorro tale. She describes the classic hero as "a child of two worlds. His father is an aristocratic Spanish military man turned landowner, his mother a Shoshone warrior. From his father, Diego receives lessons in the art of fencing and in cattle branding; from his maternal grandmother, White Owl, he learns the ways of her tribe. As a child he also witnesses the brutal injustices dealt Native Americans by European settlers and begins to feel the inner conflict of his dual heritage."
Scaia and Federman are best known for their work on post-apocalyptic "Jericho". It's thought that the new movie will be a totally fresh take on the series and will ignore the storylines of the Antonio Banderas' Mask of Zorro and Legend of Zorro.
