Loosely based on the story of Theseus played by Henry Cavill, an ass-kicking peasant who wants nothing more than to protect the ones he loves. Their land becomes over ridden by the ravaging of the King, Hyperion, very well portrayed by Mickey Rourke. He came across as a very convincing psychopathic narcissistic tyrant that wishes to leave his imprint on the world by wielding the powerful Epirus bow to release the fallen Titans so he can wage war on Olympus.
Faith is the central theme based around the movie. Theseus and Hyperion having a similar misbelieving in the Gods. Little known to Theseus, he has actually been favoured by Zeus himself, Luke Evans who is set to feature in the upcoming Hobbit movies. The Gods, who include Poseidon, Kellan Lutz, also known as Emmet Cullen from the Twilight series and Athena, Isabel Lucas, Transformers, watch down on man kind, and only can interfere according the the laws on Olympus if the Titans are released.
This movie delivers on a great deal of points. It has all the makings of a great story. Who doesn’t like a mythological story with Gods, an Oracle who can see into the future, played by Freida Pinto, (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and the angst ridden hero who is destined to save the day or cause the world to end.
The overall emphasis though, seems to be on some of the really amazing CGI effects. Some parts of the movie are essential to see in 3D, it was almost breathtakingly artistic watching a person being blown apart by a hammer in slow motion. That said in too many parts the audience are left wondering, is this actually in 3D?
Some parts of the story don't gel very well together and the acting left a little to be desired. However, overall, it delivers ten-fold in the battle scenes which make up for the lack of plot and poorly developed story line. If your desire is a gory action flick, then this is definitely your ticket. Though there is a tiny bit of romance squirreled away and some mild nudity, it is by no means a girlie movie. It’s worth a look if you like something with a lot of action and a little story. It has it’s redeeming factors and would recommend the 3D only if you want to experience some amazing scenes of carnage.
