She's probably my favorite Disney villain, followed closely by Scar from The Lion King, and now evil fairy Maleficent is taking center stage in a live action retelling of Sleeping Beauty, titled Maleficent. Not surprisingly, the new movie will explore the origins of the title character and how she came to commit the evil acts we've seen, much like what novel, and later stage show, Wicked did for the Wicked Witch Of The West from The Wizard Of Oz.
The movie has been given a March 14th 2014 release date, so it won't be for another two years that Angelina Jolie will sport green skin and giant horns. The movie marks the directorial debut of production designer Robert Stromberg (Alice In Wonderland, Avatar), and script duties are being handled by Linda Woolverton (The Lion King, Beauty And The Beast).
