Writer/Director Paul W.S. Anderson has returned to our screens with the fifth 'Resident Evil' movie. Taking place moments after the events of 'Afterlife', we find Alice (Milla Jovovich) on board the ship Arcadia, fighting off wave after wave of
soldiers from the evil Umbrella Corporation before an explosion sends
her plummeting into the water, unconscious. She awakens to find herself
held captive in an interrogation room in an underground Umbrella
training facility beneath the icy surface of a remote part of the former
Soviet Union. But Alice is not alone in this, a strike team is en route to get her out and save the world.
Milla Jovovich has been doing this role for ten years now, so she pretty much is doing the same thing she has been doing since the start, or so you would think. I found her lacking, as in she really didn't seem to care, it was like she was just going through the motions with a blank emotionless face. Which could be said about Anderson as well, This film clearly had nobody caring about it at all, just seeing it as another cash cow and it shows in a big way.
Nothing to see here really, nothing at all.
Normal enough day so for Alice and co. This entry into the ever growing 'Resident Evil' franchise is a mess of a movie. It feels all over the place at times, most of the time really. Visually I had hoped this would have delivered something fun, such as crazy over the top action sequences and explosions in 3D, but sadly no.... It all just comes off as far to ridiculous, even for this series. The over use of the slow motion and 3D really shows off just how poor the CGI is in this film, it really looks cheap. The story makes little to no sense, as its a zombie movie I just couldn't take seeing them driving bikes, cars, using machine guns and taking joy in killing with a chainsaw but lacking the intelligence to climb into an attic. I think Anderson knew he didn't really have anthing here so he dumped as much fan service as he could into it, even going as far as to putting characters from pervious installments who had died and bringing them back...cause...
