Since the news broke that Disney had acquired Lucasfilm, and were moving forward with Star Wars Episode 7, the big question was: Who's going to direct it? Well, looks like we have the answer, with The Wrap breaking the news (and Deadline backing them up) that JJ Abrams has gotten the gig. This will put the director in charge of two iconic franchises, since he has two Star Trek films under his belt, with Star Trek Into Darkness due out this Summer. In the report, it was revealed Ben Affleck was eyed for the job.
Abrams name was rumoured before with the project before, but had shot down his involvement. It's safe to say, he has since changed his mind. I love Abrams as a director, he brings a great scope and spectacle to each project he works on, and is the perfect choice to deliver further adventure from along time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.
Star Wars Episode 7 is set for release in 2015, with a script from Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine).
