With Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice just six months away from reaching the big screen, there’s been quite a lot of talk of when we will see a sequel to Man of Steel, the movie that kicked off Warner Bros. DC Comics Cinematic Universe. With the studio seemingly putting all their eggs in the Batman basket, with The Dark Knight reportedly getting his own trilogy and been given the bigger chunk of screen time in Dawn of Justice, Man of Steel 2 seems to be getting further and further away. With the rumour that it has been postponed indefinitely, it looks like Superman fans are expected to be content with seeing the Man of Tomorrow as part of an ensemble with the rest of the Justice League. But now, Zack Snyder has confirmed that Man of Steel 2 is indeed on its way, it’s just called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Up until now, I think we all considered Dawn of Justice to be it’s own movie, and that any Man of Steel sequel would actually feature more Superman than any other hero, but speaking to Canoe, Snyder considers the long awaited meeting of the two DC Icons to be the second instalment of Superman’s new big screen adventures, saying, "I think in a way Batman v Superman is Man of Steel 2. Justice League is kind of the transcendent, knights-of-the-round-table of the story. It’d be interesting to think about what a standalone Superman movie might be.” Ok, Dawn of Justice does follow on directly from Man of Steel, but the bulk of the focus being on Batman kinda of defeats the purpose of it being a Man of Steel sequel, doesn’t it?
