Marshall is no stranger to turning musicals into box office gold, with the likes of Chicago and Into The Woods on his CV, so it makes sense that Disney would look to him to bring us a revitalised take on a character we haven't seen in a little over 50 years and who was famous for catchy tunes.
The character was originally taken from a series of books that ran from 1934 to 1988, and Disney are sticking with those tales to inform the new movie, though there are rumours that this new version would see a Mary Poppins returning to the Banks family 20 years after she left them, so it could be a direct sequel if that were true.
It's still early days, but with all the success Disney is having at the moment with their older movies being spruced up for the digital era, expect them to push forward with this project sooner rather than later.
