UPDATE - Turns out that Unicorn wasn’t just for show, as, yes, Bautista is joining the cast of Blade Runner 2 in what Alcon Entertainment describes as an “important supporting role”. Nothing much else is known about it, but watch the video below, and you can see the actor is mega hyped for the role.
With production slated to begin in July, everything is starting to come together for Denis Villeneuve’s (Sicario, Prisoners) Blade Runner 2, with Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling and Robin Wright, having already signed on for the long awaited sequel. Now, one more casting may have been announced, and it’s an exciting one, with Dave Bautista posting the intriguing photo below to Twitter, along with the comment, “Can’t wait to share some really exciting news...”:
Fans will immediately recognise the origami unicorn he’s holding in his hand, and I can’t think of an image more tied to Blade Runner than that. While Bautista is currently filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, that movie will wrap in time for the July start date, giving him plenty of time to dive into the world of replicants. Nothing much is known about the sequel at this time, other than it is set several decades after the original movie, but if Bautista is indeed joining the cast, can’t you see him in a Roy Batty-esque role?
Blade Runner 2 is set for release January 12th 2018.
I'm so excited to be able to share this news! Thank you for your support in everything I do. It's humbling. pic.twitter.com/1hlRfdLF6v— Dave Bautista (@DaveBautista) April 4, 2016
