While the prospect of Avenger battling Avenger has a lot of people psyched for Captain America: Civil War, the appearance of Tom Holland pulling on the red and blue to play yet another iteration of Spide-Man will also go a long to putting butts on seats. Until now, Sony and Marvel Studios have kept details of their groundbreaking sharing of the character locked down pretty tight, but the BBC have done some sleuthing and uncovered that Sony have registered the Internet domain name SpiderManHomecomingTheMovie.com, suggesting we could be queueing up to see Spider-Man: Homecoming, or something similar, on July 17th 2017. While this is never a sure sign of a movie’s name, and could turn out to be a red herring as studios have been known to register multiple, we should bear in mind that Bond 23 was outed as Skyfall this exact same way.
If Homecoming does indeed turn out to be the title of Holland’s first solo outing as the web-slinger, it could be taking it’s cue from a storyline of the same name, starting in Amazing Spider-Man #252. This featured the black suit, that would would later become the villainous Venom, and Captain America and Iron Man, tying into runners that both will turn up, due to Sony sharing characters with Marvel Studio’s works both ways. Now, this is all speculation at this stage (would Sony really kick off a new Spider-Man series with Venom as the bad guy?), but with Civil War coming at the end of the month, we should be gearing more concrete information in the coming months.
