While Warner Bros. may have beaten them to the punch with Wonder Woman, Marvel Studios have their own female led super hero movie coming our way, and they’ve just gotten an Oscar winner to the the lead role. Rumoured for a while, but finally confirmed at Marvel Studio’s Comic-Con panel, Room’s Brie Larson will take on the role of Carol Danvers, known as Captain Marvel to the superhero set, an air force pilot with the super power of flight and enhanced strength. While she has been around since 1967, her importance in the comics has skyrocketed in the last few years (she is currently the lead in Marvel’s Civil War 2 mega event). Couple that with Larson being a mega star on the rise, and Marvel Studios are obviously planning her 2019 solo film to be a big deal (she was originally set to appear at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, when the new Avengers assemble but her role in that scene was taken by the Scarlet Witch). While a director has yet to be found, the announcement of the casting does point to us seeing her in costume a bit sooner, perhaps in Avengers: Infinity War.
Captain Marvel is set for release March 8th 2019.
