With filming currently taking place in London, Emily Blunt, in what feels like an almost perfect piece of casting, steps into the shoes of everyone’s favourite magical nanny with Mary Poppins Reurns, and the first image from the movie has come our way, giving us our first look at new Ms. Poppins. While there isn’t much to go on here, the costume work is pretty spot-on, and that magical hand bag looks pretty darn sweet.
Set in 1930's Depression-era London, the movie sees the Banks children Michael and Katie (played here by Ben Whishaw and Emily Mortimer) all grown up, and in need of their one time nanny once again to find the joy and wonder missing in their lives. With Rob Marshall (Chicago, Into The Woods) at the helm, the long overdue sequel brings together a fantastic cast that also includes Lin Manuel Miranda, Julie Walters, Dick Van Dyke, Colin Firth, and Meryl Streep. While it may never have felt like a sequel we needed, I find myself looking forward to Mary Poppins Returns with great interest.
